Integrating Storytelling into Integrated Marketing Communications

Imagine not being confident. Imagine talking down to yourself. Why do we do that? We think we aren’t enough which makes us become moody and depressed about it causing us to have low energy. To be honest, aspects of myself that bring me down sometimes are how my skin isn’t clear, how I’m always bloated, and how I am always feeling so tired. It causes me anxiety thinking about everything I have to do to target all of that. I have to eat clean food all the time, I have to drink caffeine throughout the day to energize me, I need to have the most expensive skincare and do a 12-step skincare routine every morning and night. That’s a lot to think about and to be honest, no one has time for that. I definitely don’t. It sounds dramatic but it truly takes a toll on your mental health. It wasn’t until I realized that I had to work on myself from the inside to improve the outside, and I’m talking about my gut. Little science lesson, our gut creates anti-inflammatory compounds (short-chain fatty acids) that are essential for our skin, metabolism, brain and immune health. And boom. The answer to all my problems.
Nurturing my gut by taking supplements and eating better – with the exception of french fries and loads of pasta because I am not giving that up – has helped with my skin, bloating, and mood issues. My face doesn’t look like I have little volcanoes all over it, my bloating has gone away, and I have the energy of a marathon athlete. With the improved health of my gut plus still doing my skincare that doesn’t take long, eating better but still eating my favorite foods, and still drinking my matcha but not worrying about my energy decreasing has helped me feel confident and like myself without worrying about having to do all this and that just to feel better about myself. It was one simple change that helped me bring my confidence back.
What did I just do? I took you on a journey about something that I have dealt with, something so many people struggle with everyday, and I gave a solution too. I showed vulnerability to show you that you are not alone if you’re struggling with what I have experienced. I told you a solution that I hope can be beneficial for you and give you relief that there is a solution that isn’t a hassle. I told you my story to hopefully inspire you to take action to tackle those struggles. That's storytelling.
